I went to two stores this week: Aldi and Sam’s Club. At Aldi, I stocked up on cheap produce: mushrooms, colored peppers, oranges, and dairy products: cheese, milk, eggs, sour cream. I spent $30 at Aldi but I didn’t take a picture and of course, we’ve already eaten up almost everything from that trip. I went back to Aldi’s a couple days later to get more peppers and mushrooms, but they were out.
At Sam’s Club I spent $50. I bought 10 lbs of ground beef. I went for their 10 lb rolls, but they didn’t have any so I rang the bell to ask about them. Turns out their packaging machine was broken but I talked with the butcher long enough to get what they did have (normally more expensive) for the same price as the roll. I also bought their Spring Mix Salad which used to be organic but isn’t right now. So, I stopped on the way out and asked about that. They said they should have the Organic Spring Mix back in stock in a few months. I really liked their organic salads and am not happy that they aren’t carrying them right now. I also bought 4 pounds of frozen blueberries and 5 pounds of frozen strawberries. They are great for muffins and smoothies. And finally, I bought a pack of bananas. Only 2 survived the trip home and you can see the one that looks like it was run through with a knife while somebody opened a package. It’s really gross. I wish I would have found it before we left so I could have exchanged them.
So, this week I have been cooking up that ground beef. I’m already $80 into my $250 budget this month which is a little unsettling since it’s only March 5. Keep reading to see how I make the most of the rest of my budget. My staples are still stocked so that will help!
See what I did with my ground beef here! I’m happy with the results from my shopping last week. What did you get?

We love the Sam's spring mix too, but those clam shells of salad are kind of like "fish and loaves" here… never seems to make any difference how much of it we eat, the box stays full. I've learned to check the expiration dates (duh, right?!) and only buy it when we've got a least a week to work on it. Good thing the chickens enjoy it once it is past its prime.
Love the blog!
