Moms Meet and Kashi TLC Peanutty Dark Chocolate Layered Granola Bars

A while back I signed up to be a Mom Ambassador for Moms Meet, an “online resource that empowers moms to come together in an informal setting and talk about the latest on raising healthy families and living green.”

Initially, I was motivated because I love free stuff, and “green” free stuff is hard to come by. In the year or so that I’ve been a Mom Ambassador, though, I also started this blog and part of my blogging purpose is to discuss greener life-style choices. Moms Meet is a great way to do that!

I’ve received so many fun, green products to share with my Mom friends and I’ve learned a lot in the process. Some of the freebies I’ve shared: Ecover Dishwasher Detergent, Seventh Generation Cleaning Products, Stonyfield Farms YoBaby Yogurt, Crunchmaster Gluten Free Crackers, and most recently, Kashi TLC Peanutty Dark Chocolate Layered Granola Bars.

Moms Meet actually sent me a huge bag of granola bars to share provided I review them on my blog. So, here are pictures of part of my group enjoying their granola bars and the consensus we reached about them as well!

My own kids loved the granola bars the first time they tried them. They are coated pretty heavily with a thick layer of sticky chocolate. The baby loves them! The older kids, though, didn’t like them that much after their initial taste. I wasn’t too surprised by my oldest child because she doesn’t like dark chocolate. I know! (I think she may be from outer space.) My baby loves dark chocolate though. She especially likes to smear it all over her face:

Here are what some of the other kids had to say about Kashi’s TLC Peanutty Dark Chocolate Layered Granola Bars:

“Give me 4 more!” ~ Actually, that was her version of a thumbs up! :-)

“It is very admirable that Kashi is an environmentally responsible company dedicated not only to my well being, but to the health of our planet Earth as well.” ~ Actually, I just love that this little girl is eating and drinking whole foods from clean containers. :-)

“I’m not sure I appreciate the sticky sensation from all of this gooey chocolate.” ~ Actually, I just caught him on a off moment. This little guy devoured his granola bar and I think it’s a cute picture. :-)

“I think my frog would like it. Can he have a taste puh-lease?” ~ Ummm…no! Kashi doesn’t make fly flavored granola bars.

Overall, the moms enjoyed the granola bars as much, if not more than their children. There was some discussion about the proper amount of chocolate. Only one mom thought there was too much. The rest thought it was either just right or could include even more. They were a big hit and when I left the park, I only had four left. Bummer…

And here are just a few fun facts about the Kashi company:

  • The company started 25 years ago with an eye on whole grains and healthier products.
  • The name Kashi is  “a synthesis of “kashruth” or kosher/pure food and ‘Kushi,” the last name of the founders of American Macrobiotics.” It also means “porridge in Russian, happy in Chinese, and energy in Japanese.”
  • According to a Kashi Fact Sheet here, they do not target children and spend ZERO dollars advertising their cereals.
  • They make conscious decisions to help improve people’s health and the Earth’s as well.
  • They are committed to sustainability, minimal packaging, and the three Rs – reduce, reuse, recycle.

The final verdict: with the exception of my children, almost everyone else at my Moms Meet-up loved Kashi’s TLC Peanutty Dark Chocolate Layered Granola Bars.
