I was THRILLED when Boba recently agreed to send me one of their fabulous 3g baby carriers for a review. If you are a regular SLL reader, you know that my youngest daughter was diagnosed with developmental hip dysplasia in August when she was 15 months old. She had hip surgery on November 1, and was in a hip spica cast until Jan 30th.
Her cast came with a whole host of challenges, one being how to do go anywhere with her. She was awkward, heavy, and didn’t fit in high chairs, shopping carts, baby toys, or most things really. She went from an independent walker to completely immobile over night which was really hard on all of us. To make things easier we tried to stay busy and go fun places, but that was complicated by not really having any way to take her places. Sara was really good at sitting on laps or in a bean bag chair, but that wasn’t practical for on-the-go day-to-day operations. And my Beco carrier just wasn’t quite big enough for her cumbersome, cast encapsulated body.
Enter Boba.
This carrier rocked our hip dysplasia world! I was thrilled to find that Sara fit easily inside the carrier – cast and all – and even on my 6’2″ husband! In fact, we both liked it so much, that we fought over it…and I lost. Often. And he got to be in the fabulous pictures with my belly dancing friends!
One baby carrier is NOT just as good as the next. I am a firm believer in skimping and making due in a lot of parenting areas, however, a good baby carrier is NOT an area I recommend skimping on. The Boba carrier is top notch for a lot of reasons:
First and foremost, it supports and protects baby’s body correctly. The International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IDHI) recommends that “when babies are carried, the hips should be allowed to spread apart with the thighs supported and the hips bent.” Boba carrier just does that! It has unique foot straps that give tired legs a place to rest and “support the legs in the physiological flexed abducted position (froglike position) which in turn naturally tilts the pelvis and aligns the spine.”
It’s also comfortable. Nothing strains. Nothing digs into my body. It has handy pockets, easy to fasten buckles, and a hood to support a sleeping baby’s head {not to mention the nifty foot straps}. It’s easy to get her in and out of, and she loves it! She snuggles right in, enjoys her ride, and gets mad at me when I take her out.
The Boba 3 G Carrier is made for babies and toddlers from 7 lbs – 35 lbs and can be carried on the front or the back. An extra baby insert is NOT needed for the little babies and the carrier fits most adults from 5′ to 6’3.
I highly recommend the Boba carrier. Even though Sara is now out of her cast, she’s still in a brace and can’t walk for another 6 weeks. The Boba carrier has been a real life saver for my family. I can’t thank Boba enough for their fantastic carrier.

(6 months after my husband got fixed – guess he should’ve went in and got tested to make sure it worked like they recommend….. before we found out I was pregnant!) – Guess when you are meant to have more nothing can stop it!!!
