Did you know that June 21st is not always the first day of summer? I didn’t until yesterday. Hehe! I joke about living in a cave, but really. I guess in leap years, the first day of summer is actually June 2o (which was yesterday). Who knew???
… Anyhow – It’s summer! Yay! To celebrate the first day of summer, we took a nature walk yesterday around our property. We wanted to find black raspberries and we did! We also found gooseberries, baby birds, and Japanese Beetles. I have lots of fun pictures from our hike to show you tomorrow.
Today, has been a nasty day. Last night I found lice in my kids’ hair. That was something I never thought I would have to deal with. Guess I was WRONG! I’ve been treating everyone’s hair (mine too because we co-sleep), washing tons of laundry, and generally being grumpy. To offset the grumpiness, we made a fun fruit snack! How cute are these?
{I must disclose, this is not my original idea. A picture on facebook was my inspiration, but the picture didn’t have a link, so I don’t know the original source.}
Aren’t they pretty? To make these, I just filled medium-sized waffle cones with blueberries, blackberries, grapes, strawberries, and nectarines. Then we ate them with vanilla ice cream. So tasty! And a very fun snack to brighten an otherwise yucky second day of summer.
Happy Summer to you!! Did you do anything special to celebrate?

So cute!
I’m afraid we stayed inside a lot of the day because we have a 3 day heat wave here. Tonight I am making puffed pancakes again for dinner with fresh blueberries, raspberries, bananas, and whipped cream.
We get to celebrate the onset of summer with R’s birthday – and she *was* born on the solstice even if she won’t get to celebrate it on the solstice every year.
Your photographs keep getting better and better… the cones look delicious!
