Family Foto Friday ~ Broken AC ~ 7/6

Our air conditioner died on the 4th of July. I’m not surprised. I’ve listened to that thing wheeze and gurgle for almost two summers now. It’s such an old looking AC – I’m sure it must be vintage!

Anyhow, the electrical cords fried. We’re lucky there wasn’t a fire to go along with it! And wouldn’t you know it, we have spare ACs. I know, right? Who has spare ACs? Well, turns out we have not one, but two {and I didn’t even know…} because they were hidden out at my hubby’s  parents’ farm. I often get a little frustrated with my husband for his hoarding prepper tendencies…but he got the last laugh this time.

Thanks to a helpful AC technician neighbor and my handy hubby, the “new” AC was installed by 9 pm on the 4th of July. It’s not working perfectly – something about the inside box being the wrong size for the outside box {lingo I don’t really understand} but my house is now a comfortable 74 degrees instead of sweltering 83. It’ll do until we get a better fix!

While we were waiting for the AC to be repaired, Sara got the hose and gave us our own “built in AC.”

I sure hope you’re staying cool in your neck of the woods. It’s HOT here. Is it fall yet?!

Happy Friday, Friends!

  1. Had a spare central air unit kicking around? That’s some brilliant southern ingenuity.

well, hubby may have actually “dun ya wrong” in the long run. we’re in mississippi so we know hot, too. 2 yrs ago our central died. we ended up replacing with window units. modern units are very affordable and work great. you can “zone cool” when it’s more temperate or go full blast when it’s over 100 like it’s been lately. our largest unit cost 250$ and it’s the only one we need from 6pm til 1pm. it’s only about 5 hrs we need to run 2. now, for the reason he may not have done as well as you might think. our power dropped from 240$ a month to 110$ and that’s after we added a security light and 2 rate increases. our largest unit uses approximately the same power as our COFFEEMAKER. yeah, we’re in a not very big trailer but, it’s a METAL BOX in the middle of a field with NO shade.
