A while back I got a fun box in the mail from Moms Meet and National Geographic Books. We’ve been long time subscribers to National Geographic magazine so I was really excited to dig into the box. We received several fun books and some information about the National Geographic Super Readers Program and the kids tore right into everything. I love it when new books arrive at my house. It always gives me at least 10 whole minutes of peace and quiet…
Each of these books interested my children. My 7 year old is really into knights and weapons and old things. My 8 year old loves weird, but true facts. The 4 and 2 year olds just like looking at the pictures. Each of the kids had fun and enjoyed looking through the books with me.
One of my favorite pictures was of this French castle called Mont Saint Michel. Of course the name is awesome!
But beyond that, I remember driving to this fabulous castle with my parents and grandparents when I was about 9 years old. It’s a very unique castle because it becomes an island only accessible by boat during high tide! {Of course, we drove there during low tide…} My kids love hearing stories of my youth which was quite a lot different than theirs has been so far since I grew up in Germany and they’re here in rural Iowa.
The box also contained a reading program with charts, stickers, and different level books. I think this program would be really nice for my 7 year old who is learning to read fluently right now. Unfortunately, the book they sent was above his reading level, so I’m not sure. He did like looking through the pictures and my fluently reading 8 year old enjoyed the book. The pictures were lots of fun {a little graphic for my younger kiddos, I thought}, but overall, they included relevant information and were interesting to read.
Curious about the program?
National Geographic Super Readers was developed in consultation with literacy education experts. Each National Geographic Super Reader is filled with cool information about nonfiction topics kids love such as dinosaurs, tigers, planes and trains, plus big, colorful photographs, all in an easy-to-read and kid-friendly design. With fun incentives to keep reading, an interactive website, and fun characters to get to know, the National Geographic Super Readers program has everything you need to get kids SUPER excited about reading. At kids.nationalgeographic.com/superreader, kids can sign up to become Super Readers, download the Super Readers poster, and start reading! Once they finish their book, they can cross it off on their poster and start getting fun rewards and prizes.
National Geographic and Moms Meet would like to send 3 lucky readers their very own Super Readers Kit!
