One of my goals for 2013 is to reduce the amount of waste my household produces. When Best Buy asked for bloggers to share information about their Electronics Recycling Program, I jumped at the chance! I used to take electronics to Goodwill, but they’ve quit taking some of the things I need to get rid of so I need another option. I was interested to learn that Best Buy recycles electronics, and I figured many of you would want to know too.
Keeping electronics out of the landfill is very important because of the many kinds of hazardous contaminants electronics include, such as lead, cadmium, beryllium, or brominated flame retardants. {Yes, I recognize some of those things from my high school chemistry class…but don’t ask me what they are!}. Even though I don’t really know what they are, I do know that letting these nasty chemicals leach into the ground and/or water isn’t really a good option. Knowing how to responsibly dispose of products isn’t always easy either, though.
Best Buy to the rescue!
As it turns out, though, recycling electronics doesn’t have to be hard! Best Buy recycles 387 pounds of electronics each minute they are open! They don’t care what type of electronic you bring in, where you bought it, or how old it is. Simply take your electronics to any Best Buy in the US or Puerto Rice, and they will safely and responsibly dispose of them FOR FREE.
When it’s time to upgrade your electronics, check out Best Buy’s line of Energy Star certified products here. Don’t forgot to give them your old stuff in return. To find out what you can take it, visit Best Buy’s website here and simply type in your state.

Thanks for posting this! I didn’t know Best Buy recycled. I have a box of VCR, digital tuner, etc. that we’ll be dropping off this weekend.
